In my everyday business as a virtual assistant, I use both Tailwind and Board Booster to schedule my client’s pins to Pinterest. They both have their uses and in this post, I am going to help you figure out which one is right for you and your business.
Manually pinning everything you want to pin is incredibly time-consuming. You could waste 2 to 3 hours a day just pinning things to your boards. If you are like me, you might find something you like, start to read it, click on a link in that article, then another and by the time you look at the clock again an hour has gone by and you haven’t gotten anything done. Having a Pinterest scheduler eliminates that temptation (at least a little!)
Tailwind allows you to schedule pins on any schedule you choose. You also have the option of letting Tailwind create a schedule for you. Tailwind has billions of data points and you can use all of that data to your advantage by letting Tailwind figure out the best times to pin your content. This platform also has a few extra tools to help with your scheduling.
- Browser extension allows you to schedule pins from any website. It will also allow you to pin to multiple boards or add it to your tailwind tribes.
- Shuffle feature allows you to shuffle where the pins fall on your schedule.
- Lock feature locks in the times a particular pin is scheduled to go out. You can shuffle the rest of your pins without that pin being affected.
- Interval Scheduler allows you to set a specific interval for a pin you post to multiple boards.
Board Booster works a little bit differently than most scheduling platforms. It works directly from your Pinterest boards. You create secret boards and pin the things you would like to schedule out across time to the secret boards. Then you tell Board Booster which boards to pull from, at what interval to pull them from and to what boards you would like them pinned. Anything you pin on those boards will automatically go into your pinning schedule.
Board Booster also helps you figure out what times are best for your content to go out, but because this platform works on an interval schedule, there is no need for the additional tools. Once you set up your schedule, Board Booster continues to pull from those secret boards at the interval you set up.
Ease of Use
This is one of the biggest factors in deciding which platform is right for you. If you can’t figure out how to use it, it will not be much good to you.
Tailwind is a very straight forward platform. The layout is easy to understand and they have great support if you are having an issue with anything. The times I have used their customer support I went through their chat feature and was very happy with the results.
With Tailwind, you will need to schedule your content each week to keep your calendar full. The browser extension makes this pretty easy to do and depending on the number of pins you pin each day, it should take you between 2-4 hours per week to do your scheduling.
Board Booster is in my opinion, a little bit harder to get the hang of. The website is not as streamlined as Tailwind so you might have to do some trial and error to get everything working the way you would like it to.
The biggest benefit of Board Booster is the set it and forget it style of this platform. Once you figure out how to set up your secret boards and pinning schedule, Board Booster does the rest. You will not have to go back and adjust your schedule. This looping feature it is a huge time saver when it comes to scheduling your content.
This is always the big question. How much will it cost me to use one of these platforms? The good news is both platforms offer free trials, so if you want to try them out you can do so at no cost.
Tailwind offers two separate plans, one for individual users and one for corporate use. The individual “Plus Plan” is $9.99 and what most users will need. With that plan you get:
- Unlimited pinning
- Analytics for engagement with each of your boards
- Pin analysis to see which pins got the most engagement, what time they were pinned and to what board.
- Track individual pins from your website to see how they are performing.
- Analytics on how many followers you are gaining each day.

Board Booster has many different monthly plans to suit your needs. $5.00 a month will get you 500 pins, $10 a month will get you 1000 pins, $20 a month will get you 2000 pins, $30 a month will get you 3000 pins and $50 a month will get you 5000 pins. This lets you customize your plan to your pinning schedule. All plans include:
- The number of pins selected in your plan.
- Analytics to see the days and times your pins are getting the most repins
- Scheduling help to make sure your pins get the most exposure.
- Pin mover to help you organize your boards
Both Tailwind and Board Booster have a few extra features that are worth mentioning for a true side by side comparison. These extra features might make your decision a little easier if you are having an issue deciding which one is right for you.
You can’t talk about Tailwind without talking about Tailwind Tribes. Similar to group boards, a tribe is a group collaboration board within the platform. It allows you to schedule content directly from the tribe. You will also get a weekly email detailing how well your pins have performed in the tribes.
Tailwind also has an Instagram scheduler so you can kill two social media birds with one stone. The Instagram scheduler allows you to link to Dropbox or drag and drop uploads so you can style your board to your brand.
Board Booster has two bonus features that can really help any pinner. The Pin Doctor scans your pins to check for broken links or pins that go to dangerous sites. This feature means you can always be confident you are pinning quality content. This feature is not free, it is an additional $.01 per pin.
My favorite extra on Board Booster is the Group Board Manager. I have a love-hate relationship with group boards. On one hand, they are great for collaboration, meeting other people and getting your content in front of new audiences. On the other hand, they take a lot of time to manage properly. The Group Board manager shows you who is pinning, how much they are pinning and if they are only pinning repeat content. This can go a long way in helping you manage a large group board.
Both of these platforms have their place, but if I had to pick one, it would be Tailwind hands down. With unlimited pinning, tribes, and some amazing analytics, it is really hard to beat. After using both platforms for myself and my clients, I became an affiliate for Tailwind because I believe it can really help anyone reach their pinning goals.
