We live in a global economy and running a business from anywhere in the world has never felt more possible! You might be currently trapped at home, but if you dream of having your own successful business while traveling the world, or living near a beach. It’s never too early to start planning. The quicker you start, the quicker you’ll be able to make this dream a reality. The ability to run a business from anywhere is invaluable in case you need to keep on top of any urgent developments while on vacation and making sure you can keep working even if you’re stuck in a particular location. If this sounds good, here are some handy tips to help you get started running your business from anywhere in the world.




Choose Your Business

Of course, not all business ideas are equal. Some require much more face-to-face interaction than others, and will be more difficult to translate into a geographically-flexible enterprise! When starting your business, make sure to strategically choose a business that can be carried out online. Consider any skills you have or want to develop further. One example of a service based-business that might be the perfect option for you could be a website designer.  With so many businesses popping up, (online or brick and mortar) website designers are constantly in demand. They can easily work from anywhere with an internet connection. I originally chose to be a Social Media Manager and then niched to a Pinterest Strategist because I found it worked well with my schedule as a homeschooling mom.  Social media can typically be scheduled so you can travel while still posting online about your business or for your clients’ businesses.


Get Digitally Savvy

Any business that you can do from anywhere in the world is likely to be primarily online. The best way you can prepare for this is to get educated about all types of online operations, from communication to sales to marketing. Services such as a remotely accessible mailing address, will allow you to receive digital copies of any physical mail it’s necessary for you to see.

Google Voice, Skype, Voxer and Zoom are ways to communicate with clients. It is ideal to have a scheduler like Book Like a Boss, where you can decide your schedule and pass the link to a potential or existing client to choose a time to connect. A scheduler works across time zones and eliminates the back and forth of emails trying to find the perfect time. There are many services like this that are perfect for online businesses and will allow you to have complete control over your business from anywhere in the world.

A payment processor for your services is essential.  There are a wide variety to choose from including Paypal, Stripe, Payoneer, Waveapps, HelloBonsai, Zelle, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and more. I would suggest having more than one in case you need a backup.  It is also nice to have different options to offer to clients.


Build Your Social Media Profiles

One of the most important things for any business, but particularly an online business, is building your online profile. You need to be able to attract clients so all your marketing must happen online. Social media is a brilliant tool for this, and if you can become a wizard at promoting your Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, and Pinterest feeds, you can build a client base quickly and efficiently. It’s also worth looking at Search Engine Optimization as a way to boost your company in search results, particularly as you’re starting out. Make sure to gather positive reviews or testimonials to improve your reputation and credibility.


Hire a Virtual Assistant

A good Virtual Assistant can be an integral piece to your business. They can help with a variety of tasks including; small repetitive tasks, bookkeeping, social media marketing, and email marketing. Virtual Assistants can keep your marketing and bookkeeping consistent when or if you might become unavailable. From my past experiences overseas, you need to plan for the unexpected. It’s always good to have a backup plan!


Create Passive Income

Adding additional sources of passive income will provide peace of mind. Create infoproducts, evergreen courses, and add affiliate marketing to your business.  If you are primarily a serviced-based business, these additional passive income streams can help cover business expenses (& travel costs) when you might not have any clients.
